Therapeutic Mobility: What Improvisational Comedy Can Teach Us [Broadcast June 13, 2023]

OVERVIEW:
In this workshop, participants will be introduced to the 4 main guidelines of improvisational comedy and how these can assist in expanding the therapeutic mobility of a clinician. The facilitators connect these guidelines to the skills that therapists can build through the practice of these principles. Participants will then join in on improvisation games designed to highlight building relationships through using “yes/and,” maintaining curiosity and flexibility as a story is being told, and most importantly, designed to laugh and have a great time, keeping in mind the biggest rule of improv is there are no mistakes.

BIOS:
Jennifer earned her master’s degree at the University of Connecticut. She is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and Approved AAMFT Supervisor. She also earned her MBA degree in 2020 and has been a working in the field of mental health since 1996.

John received his PhD in Marriage and Family Therapy from Florida State University. For the past 18 years he has taught in graduate programs in both Clinical Mental Health Counseling and Marriage and Family Therapy.
